The green screen of death can occur anytime on your iPhone. It can be due to software or hardware-related issues.

In this article, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about it.

Let’s begin!

Green Screen Of Death Causes

There are several reasons for a green screen on your iPhone:

  • Software Issues: A recent software update may have affected your iPhone, causing it to green screen and then crash.
  • Hardware Failure: A green screen can also indicate hardware-related problems such as malfunctioning screens, broken ribbon cables, or board issues.
  • Physical Damage: Dropping your phone, exposing it to harsh conditions, and excessive moisture can cause your iPhone’s screen to turn green.

The best way to identify whether you’re dealing with a software or hardware problem is to perform a force restart.

  1. Press the Volume Up button
  2. Press the Volume Down button.
  3. Hold the Side button
  4. Release the Side button when the Apple logo appears.

  • Your device can restart several times while installing the update.
  • Ensure your iPhone has at least 50% battery before installing updates. It’s best to keep your device plugged into the wall charger to avoid interruptions.
  • Allow at least 15 minutes for the update to install, especially if it’s a major update (iOS 14 to iOS 15).

To avoid missing future updates, enable automatic updates on your iPhone:

  2. Go to General > Software Update > Automatic Updates
