How to Fix Voice Chat Not Working on Fortnite

Can’t figure out why voice chat is not working on Fortnite?

Voice chat and online games go hand in hand. In Fortnite, the key to success is good communication and teamwork. Being a fast-paced shooter, Fortnite requires coordination and precise execution to take down enemy teams.

Unfortunately, how can you achieve this if voice chat is not working on the game?

Recently, many Fortnite users reported issues with the game’s built-in communication. While this can be resolved using third-party apps like Discord, in-game chats are still crucial for solo queues.

Usually, voice chat issues on Fortnite are caused by slow network connections or faulty game servers.

However, it can also be due to corrupted device drivers or faulty hardware.

To help you out, we’ve decided to make a guide on what to do if voice chat is not working on Fortnite.

Let’s get started!

1. Check Fortnite Servers.

If a service or feature is not working on Fortnite, it may indicate that there’s a problem with the game’s servers. To confirm this, visit Epic Games’ status page and see if there is an ongoing problem with Fortnite.

If Fortnite’s servers are down, the only thing you can do is wait for their team to address the issue.

On the other hand, you can head to the next method below if Fortnite’s servers are working.

2. Check Your Hardware.

Before tweaking your system configurations, we suggest checking your audio device first. Ensure that your microphone and speakers are plugged in correctly on your computer, and they are detected by Windows.

Try disconnecting the audio jack from your computer and reconnect it after a few seconds. You should also check your hardware for possible damage.

After checking your audio device, restart Fortnite and check if the problem is solved.

3. Restart Your PC.

If there’s no issue with your audio device, the first thing you can do is restart your system. While this may sound simple, restarting your computer reloads your system resources and eliminates temporary errors that may have occurred during use.

Follow the guide below to restart your Windows PC:

  1. On your Taskbar, click on the Windows icon to open the Start Menu
  2. Next, access the Power Options tab.
  3. Finally, click the Restart button to reboot your operating system.

Go back to Fortnite after restarting your computer to check if voice chat is working.

4. Check Your Network Connection.

A slow network connection could also cause communication issues on Fortnite. Since Fortnite is an online game, it needs a stable internet to function properly. Run a test on your network using Fast.com to measure its current bandwidth.

Speed Test

If the test confirms that the problem is with your network, reboot your router or modem to re-establish the connection with your provider’s servers.

Restart Router

Perform another test after restarting your router to check if the problem is solved. If you continue encountering network-related issues, contact your service provider and ask them to fix their service.

5. Check Your Game Settings.

Another reason why voice chat is not working on Fortnite is if your in-game settings are not set correctly. Go to Fortnite’s settings and ensure that voice chat is enabled on your account. You should also check if you’re using the correct input and output devices in the game.

  2. After that, go to the Privacy tab and click on Microphone
