Already experiencing the overheating issue on the iPhone 14 Pro?

Apple recently launched its new iPhone 14 Pro in the market, and people are loving it.

However, with numerous perks that come with this specific model, iPhone users have also reported certain issues, the most common one being an overheating problem.

To help you resolve this matter, we’ve gathered several quick fixes in this guide that can return your iPhone’s temperature to normal.

1. Disable ‘Always-On’ Display Setting

The Always-On Display has got to be one of the biggest features on the iPhone 14 Pro that shows you date, time, and other lock screen widgets on a dim screen even when you’ve locked your device. While it sounds cool, the feature has been the reason for some iPhones to overheat.

To fix this, simply disable Always-On Display by following these steps:

  1. First, launch the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Then, select Display & Brightness.
  3. Switch off the toggle next to Always On.
disable Always-On Display

2. Wait For iPhone to Restore Data From iCloud

If you just got your hands on the new iPhone 14 Pro, there’s a high probability that you’re in the middle of transferring data from your old device via iCloud.

During this period, a lot of data is being processed, not just in the foreground but also in the background.

In fact, several options like app recommendations and facial detection in the Photos app may take around a few days to a week to stabilize.

Therefore, if you’ve recently switched iPhones, wait around a week or so and observe your device’s temperature.

3. Update to the Latest iOS Version

As minor glitches and system bugs may also cause your iPhone to overheat, it’s best to update it to the latest iOS version available. Though iOS 14 has just come out, Apple releases minor updates every now and then that contain fixes for most reported issues.

Here’s how to check for iOS updates on iPhone:

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Then, go to the General tab.
  3. From there, select Software Update.
update iOS
  1. If there are pending updates, tap on Download & Install.

4. Remove Lock Screen Widgets

The lock screen widgets on iOS 16 continuously fetch data from their relevant apps. To show you updated information, the applications are constantly running in the background, even if you’ve force-closed them. These widgets also require heavy resources to run and hence consume extra power, leading to a rise in your device’s temperature.

Try removing the lock screen widgets to bring your device temperature down by following these steps:

  1. Press and hold down anywhere on your iPhone’s Lock Screen.
  2. Then, tap on the Customize option at the bottom of the screen. This will enter you into edit mode.
  3. To remove a lock screen widget, select the widget box below the time and tap on the – icon.

5. Temporarily Shut Down Your iPhone

When you shut down your device, it discards all the running applications, processes, and services. That way, if any application or a system bug is causing your iPhone 14 Pro to overheat, its activity will be blocked, and the temperature will cool down, at least for the time being.

If you cannot find the root cause of the temperature increase or fix it afterward, this method is a must to follow. Overheating takes a toll on the iPhone battery, reducing its life span.

Follow the steps below to shut down your iPhone 14 Pro:

  1. Press and hold down the Side button and either of the Volume buttons simultaneously until you see a slider appear on your iPhone’s screen.
Restart iPhone 14 Pro
  1. Drag the slider across the screen to shut down your device temporarily.

6. Turn On Low Power Mode

Although you shouldn’t turn on Low Power mode on your iPhone unless the battery percentage is below 20%, the feature is handy when experiencing the overheating issue on iPhone 14 Pro and other models.

When enabled, your iPhone will block all background activity, preventing continuous passive data gathering. This allows your device to use the minimum required resources, lowering the dissipation of heat.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Then, tap on Battery.
  3. Turn on the toggle next to Low Power Mode.
Enable Low Power Mode on iPhone

7. Turn Off Location Services

If you have Location Services enabled on your iPhone, apps like Weather, Maps, etc., will derive data regularly to know your whereabouts.

This may result in you experiencing the overheating issue on the iPhone 14 Pro, as it’s continuously using more resources than it should.

To fix this, simply disable Location Services by following the steps below:

  1. Launch the Settings app on your device.
  2. Then, go to Privacy & Security.
Overheating Issue on iPhone 14 Pro
  1. After that, tap on Location Services.
  2. Turn off the toggle next to Location Services.
Disable Location Services

8. Avoid Using iPhone Under Direct Sunlight

Though Apple provides in-built protection for its internal components, the device temperature greatly relies on external conditions. If you’re using your latest iPhone 14 Pro under direct sunlight on a hot day, its temperature will eventually become unbearable.

It’s recommended to avoid using applications that consume heavy resources, such as GPS tracking, games, navigation, etc., at such times for optimal performance of your device.

In addition to that, avoid leaving your iPhone in direct sunlight for too long, such as in the car.

9. Avoid Using iPhone While Charging

We all know that charging an electronic device generates heat from it. This energy needs to be properly dissipated to maintain your iPhone’s battery health.

If you start using the device on top of that, it will consume resources which will add to the already generated heat, causing its temperature to rise abnormally.

Overheating Issue on iPhone 14 Pro

For this reason, you are advised to leave your iPhone unused while charging to avoid damaging its battery. If the temperature continues to rise afterward, take your iPhone 14 Pro out of its case and let it cool.

10. Use a Non-Fast Charger (Or Another Charger)

Another thing to keep in mind while putting your iPhone on charge is to avoid using a fast charger.

Fast charging increases the temperature at a similar rate.

On the other hand, when you use a non-fast charger, your iPhone will gain some time to dissipate the heat properly, preventing the temperature from rising abruptly.

Apple non-fast charger

11. Remove iPhone From Charge

The latest iPhone features put the charging on hold if the temperature increases past a limit and resumes when it goes back to normal.

But even after that, if your iPhone overheats to an unbearable level, you should immediately remove it from charging to prevent damaging your battery.

Wait for it to cool down before putting it back on charge.

12. Replace Your iPhone (Free if Within 14 Days*)

If none of the above-mentioned methods helped get your device back to normal temperature, the problem might be in the hardware components.

Since the iPhone 14 Pro was released just recently, it’s likely you got your hands on it not too long ago.

Fortunately, Apple lets its users return or replace their devices in case of any malfunctions. But you must submit a request within the 14-day limit of purchasing the device.

If this guide helped you, please share it. 😊

While composing a message, you may want to rephrase a sentence, copy a portion, or simply remove a word.

However, this may not be possible if you do not see the “edit” menu when you long-press a word or sentence.

In this guide, I’ll show you what to do if editing messages is not working on your iPhone.

1. Restart Messages App

Before anything, I suggest restarting the Messages app if you can’t access the “edit” menu while composing a message.

This ensures that a temporary bug or error is not causing the problem.

  1. Swipe upwards from the bottom of your screen or double-press the Home button to access the app switcher.
  2. Find Messages from the list of apps running on your iPhone/
  3. Drag or flick the app upwards to close it.
App Switcher

2. Restart Your iPhone

If restarting the Messages app did not work, try restarting your iPhone.

This allows your system to reload its resources, resolving any errors that could be causing the “edit” menu not to show up.

Restarting your iPhone also clears unused and corrupted data from the system memory.

If you’re using an iPhone with Face ID, here’s how you can restart it:

  1. Hold the Volume Down and Side buttons until the ‘Slide to Power Off’ prompt appears.
  2. Now, drag the slider to the right and wait for 30 seconds.
  3. Press the Side button afterward to turn on your device.
Restart iPhone

For iPhones with Touch ID, you can restart them by doing the following:

  1. Locate the Power button on your device.
  2. Hold the button until the ‘Slide to Power Off’ prompt appears.
  3. Drag the slider to the right and wait 30 seconds before turning on your device.
Restart iPhone Home Button

3. Update Your iPhone

Software-related issues could also be why you can’t edit, copy, or paste while composing a message.

To rule this out, install the latest version of iOS on your iPhone to patch any bugs or errors.

Here’s how you can update your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Navigate to General > Software Update
  3. If there’s a new iOS version available, tap Download and Install
  4. Once the new software is ready, follow the prompts to install the update.
Update iPhone

Note

  • Your device can restart several times while installing the update.
  • Ensure your iPhone has at least 50% battery before installing updates. It’s best to keep your device plugged into the wall charger to avoid interruptions.
  • Allow at least 15 minutes for the update to install, especially if it’s a major update (iOS 15 to iOS 16).

To avoid missing future updates, enable automatic updates on your iPhone:

  1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Go to General > Software Update > Automatic Updates
  3. Enable Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates

4. Check If You’re Using iMessage

The feature to edit a sent message(s) is only available for iMessage, not regular SMS/MMS.

Check if the message you sent has a blue or green bubble.

edit messages not working on iphone

Rule of thumb: The blue bubble is iMessage, which means the message is sent to another iPhone, while the green bubble is the regular SMS/MMS.

5. Check iMessage Limits

While iMessage allows users to edit sent messages, this doesn’t mean that you can edit any message at any time.

You can only edit a message for 15 minutes after sending it and unsend a message after 2 minutes

In addition, each message you send can only be edited a maximum of 5 times

6. Reset iPhone Settings

If you still can’t edit messages on your iPhone, I recommend resetting your system settings.

Some configurations you’ve set could conflict with one another, and resetting it should get everything sorted.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone
  3. Tap on Reset
  4. Select Reset All Settings and follow the prompts.

Note

  • Your iPhone will immediately restart upon resetting your configurations.
  • It may be stuck in the Apple logo. Wait for the process to complete, which usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.

FAQs

Why can’t I edit my messages on iPhone?

Starting with iOS 16, users can now edit sent messages within 15 minutes of sending. However, this feature is only available with iMessage, not regular SMS/MMS. If you can’t edit a sent message, check if it has a green bubble, which is an SMS.

Why does the Edit option disappear on iMessage?

If you can’t see the edit option for a message, it means that the allowed edit period expired. For every message you’ve sent on iMessage, you can edit it within 15 minutes of sending and edit it up to 5 times

Can you edit iMessage after it has been read?

Yes. Your recipient can also view the edit history of your messages. If you don’t want a specific message to be seen, unsending it is a better option. However, you can only unsent a message within 2 minutes after sending it.

How do you know if someone has read your iMessage?

If you text someone with “Read Receipts” turned on, you’ll see the word “Read” under your message and the time it was opened.

To turn on your “Read Receipts”, you need to:

  1. Open the iMessage app
  2. Go to Settings and tap on Messages
  3. Find Send Read Receipts and enable the feature.

    5. Disable Your VPN

Some carriers don’t work well with VPNs. If you are using any VPN, disable them to see if it fixes the issue.

If you are using a VPN profile, you can delete it by doing the following:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Go to General > VPN & Device Management

    2. Tap the (i) button next to the VPN Profile you want to remove.
    3. Tap Delete VPN and follow the prompt.

    6. Reset Network Settings

You can reset your network settings if cellular data is still not working on your iPhone 14 Pro.

This should ensure that your network configurations are set to the default settings.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Go to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Select Reset Network Settings and follow the prompts.

    Note

    • Your iPhone will immediately restart upon resetting your network configurations.
    • It may be stuck in the Apple logo. Wait for the process to complete, which usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.

    7. Contact Your Carrier

If none of the solutions worked, I suggest contacting your respective carrier to report the issue.

There might be a problem with their services or something wrong with your eSIM, which can only be resolved with the carrier’s intervention.

    FAQs

Why is my cellular data not working on the iPhone 14 Pro?

Your cellular data may not be working because it’s turned off. It’s also possible that you’re in a location with poor reception. Toggle Airplane Mode on/off to refresh the connection with your carrier.

Why does my iPhone keep having cellular issues?

Problems with your carrier settings often cause cellular data issues. To fix this, check if there are carrier settings updates for your iPhone:

    1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to General > About
    3. A prompt will appear if there’s an update available.

Why does my iPhone keep disconnecting from cellular data?

There are several reasons why you keep getting disconnected from cellular data. There might be an outage in your area, or cellular data services may be blocked from your account. Check with your carrier to ensure your account is active and in good standing or to confirm possible outages.

Why does my iPhone 14 Pro Max have no signal?

You can go to Settings > Mobile Data to check if your mobile line is enabled. If your mobile line is disabled, turn it on, then check if you have service. If you can’t see your mobile line, check if your SIM card is installed correctly or contact your carrier if you use an eSIM.

Why is my iPhone struggling to get a signal?

Your iPhone could struggle to get a signal due to a software or firmware issue. A hardware issue like a bad SIM card can also cause this problem. Check for available updates and ensure that your SIM is installed correctly.

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to General > Software Update
    3. If there’s a new iOS version available, tap Download and Install
    4. Once the new software is ready, follow the prompts to install the update.

For unexplained reasons, many iPhone users are experiencing a weird issue when making a call.

Instead of taking them to the Phone app, their iPhones redirect to Instagram.

This is a software problem, and the solutions below should get your iPhone working again.

    Let’s get started!

    Before Anything: Restart Your iPhone

A lot of things can happen while using your iPhone. Temporary errors can occur, which can cause apps and programs to malfunction.

Try restarting your iPhone first to rule out temporary bugs and errors.

Try making another call to see if it will redirect you to Instagram.

    1. Check Contact Call Option

If you have contacts linked to Instagram, the Instagram app is likely selected as the default app for calling.

This explains why the Instagram app keeps opening whenever you call your contacts.

Follow the steps below to change the default app for your contacts:

    1. On your iPhone, access the Contacts app
    2. Next, select a contact that is linked to Instagram.
    3. Press and hold the Call button to open the options tab.
    4. Choose the Phone app from the list.

Repeat the steps for all your Instagram contacts.

    2. Uninstall Instagram

Changing the call option for each contact can be a tedious task when you have hundreds of contacts.

Luckily, you can uninstall Instagram temporarily to force your contacts to revert to the Phone app.

    1. Go to your home screen and find Instagram
    2. Press and hold its app icon until the options menu appears.
    3. Tap on Remove App

Restart your iPhone and try calling again.

You can reinstall Instagram afterward if the problem is resolved.

    3. Update Your iPhone

A software glitch could be causing this problem on your iPhone. To rule this out, check for software updates and install them to receive the latest patches and fixes.

Here’s how you can update your iPhone:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to General > Software Update
    3. If there’s a new iOS version available, tap Download and Install
    4. Once the new software is ready, follow the prompts to install the update.

    2. Go to General > Software Update > Automatic Updates
    3. Enable Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates

    4. Reset Your Settings

There might be a conflict with your system preferences that cause Instagram to launch when making a phone call.

Reset your iPhone’s settings to roll back any changes that may have caused the problem.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Go to General > Transfer or Reset iPhone
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Select Reset All Settings and follow the prompts.

Many users complain that their other devices keep getting disconnected from their iPhone’s hotspots.

This could disrupt your meetings, school activities, work, and other engagements, causing inconvenience.

In this guide, I’m going to show you what to do to get this problem sorted.

    1. Turn Off Low Power Mode

The low power mode feature is the primary cause of this problem.

Since a personal hotspot consumes a lot of battery, low power mode may disable your hotspot, causing other devices to get disconnected.

When sharing your internet, make sure to disable low power mode.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Tap on Battery
    3. Set the toggle switch next to Low Power Mode to off.

On the other hand, you can also disable/enable low power mode from the Control Center.

    1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Now, tap on Control Center
    3. Tap Customize Controls and select Low Power Mode
    Low Power Mode

Swipe downwards from the upper right corner of your screen to access the Control Center.

    2. Disable Low Data Mode

Low data mode can also affect personal hotspot performance.

This helps save cellular data by limiting the overall network usage of your iPhone. This causes connected devices to have slow and unstable connections.

Here’s how to turn it off:

    1. Launch the Settings app on your device.
    2. After that, tap on Cellular
    3. Open the Cellular Data Options tab.
    4. Find Low Data Mode and turn it off.
    Low Data Mode

    Note

Low data mode is disabled when the toggle switch is not green.

    3. Stay On the Hotspot Screen

You can leave your iPhone on the personal hotspot screen to prevent your hotspot from disconnecting.

While this consumes more power since your screen stays on, it’s a viable option if you need an internet connection ASAP.

Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Now, tap on Cellular
    3. Tap on Personal Hotspot
    4. Enable the ‘Allow Others to Join’ option.

Stay on this page and use your other devices.

    Note

    • Your iPhone may head up if you leave the screen on while your personal hotspot is enabled.
    • Remove any cases on your iPhone to improve heat dissipation.

On the other hand, you can disable auto-lock on your iPhone:

    1. Access the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Go to Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.
    3. Choose Never from the options.

    4. Enable Compatibility

iPhones have a compatibility mode that ensures other devices can connect without issues.

If your other device keeps getting disconnected, enable maximize compatibility on your iPhone.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Now, go to Cellular > Personal Hotspot.
    3. Enable Maximize Compatibility

Connect to your iPhone’s hotspot again to check if the problem is solved.

    Note

Enabling maximize compatibility switches your frequency to 2.4 GHz, which delivers slower bandwidth.

    5. Update Your iPhone

Outdated or problematic versions of iOS can also cause hotspot issues.

To rule this out, check if a new version of iOS is available for your device and install it to patch bugs and errors.

    • Allow at least 15 minutes for the update to install, especially if it’s a major update (iOS 14 to iOS 15).

To avoid missing future updates, enable automatic updates on your iPhone:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Go to General > Software Update > Automatic Updates
    3. Enable Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates.

    6. Reset Network Settings

If none of the solutions worked, try resetting your network settings.

There might be a conflict with your settings that causes your personal hotspot to turn off or force connected devices to disconnect.

    1. On your iPhone, go to the main menu and open Settings
    2. Now, tap on General
    3. Look for Transfer or Reset iPhone and tap on it.
    4. Tap the Reset option and select Reset Network Settings.
    5. Follow the prompts to continue.

    Note

    • Your iPhone will immediately restart upon resetting your network configurations.
    • It may appear to be stuck in the Apple logo. Wait for the process to complete, which usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.

    FAQs

Why does my hotspot keep disconnecting automatically?

Your hotspot keeps disconnecting automatically due to low power mode. This feature automatically limits activities on your iPhone to help save battery, including disabling certain features like personal hotspots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and more.

How do I stop my iPhone from disconnecting from the hotspot when locked?

You can disable auto-lock on your iPhone. If auto-lock is set to never, your personal hotspot will stay active even when the screen is turned off for hours.

    1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.
    3. Select Never from the options.

How can I make my iPhone hotspot more reliable?

You can improve your iPhone’s hotspot performance by doing the following:

    • Improve cellular reception
    • Switch your hotspot to 5GHz frequency
    • Disable battery saving and data saving on your iPhone
    • Keep your other devices close to the hotspot
    • Eliminate Wi-Fi obstructions and interference

What is the maximum hotspot connections on iPhone?

Apple has no official statement on the maximum number of devices connected to your hotspot. Online sources mentioned a 5 to 10 device limit, with some carriers limiting it to 3. All you can do is connect as many devices as possible to find the limit for your device.

Is iPhone hotspot 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?

iPhones use a 5 GHz connection by default. On iPhone 12 or later, you can turn on maximize compatibility for personal hotspots to use a 2.4 GHz connection. Maximize compatibility might reduce internet performance for devices connected to the hotspot.

Are you struggling to send photos to non-iPhone users using the Messages app?

    You’re not alone.

In this article, I’ll show you different solutions that you can try if you can’t send photos to non-iPhone users.

    Let’s begin!

Before You Proceed: Check If MMS Is Enabled

A multimedia messaging service (MMS) can help send photos and other media from your iPhone.

Before proceeding with the solutions, ensure that your device’s multimedia messaging service (MMS) is enabled. Here’s how:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Now, go to Messages
    3. Look for the MMS Messaging option and enable it.
can't send photos to non-iphone users

If you don’t see MMS Messaging from the settings, your carrier doesn’t support it.

    1. Check Your Connection

    Multimedia messaging needs stable internet.

If you can’t send photos or videos using the Messages app, it might indicate a problem with your connection.

Run a test using Ookla’s Speedtest to ensure your internet connection is stable.

If your connection is unstable, restart your modem or cellular data to refresh the connection with your service provider.

    1. Unplug your router from the outlet.
    2. Wait for 5 to 10 seconds.
    3. Plug back in your modem/router.
    Restart Router

Perform another test to check if the problem is solved. If not, contact your network provider to address the issue.

    2. Check With Your Carrier

While most network providers support MMS, verifying if your current plan has MMS enabled by contacting your carrier is good practice.

Additionally, technical glitches on your carrier’s end can occasionally disrupt specific services.

Ensure both you and the recipient are using carriers that support MMS to avoid compatibility issues.

    3. Reset MMS

You can try restarting the MMS feature on your iPhone if you still can’t send photos to non-iPhone users.

A temporary error may have occurred that caused the feature to malfunction.

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Scroll down and go to Messages
    3. Turn off MMS Messaging

    1. Wait for 2-3 minutes.
    2. Enable MMS Messaging again.

    4. Update Carrier Settings

Carrier settings updates include updates to Access Point Names, MMS settings, and other features.

If you can’t send photos to non-iPhone users, try updating your carrier settings.

Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Access the Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Now, go to the General tab.
    3. Tap on About
can't send photos to non-iphone users
    1. A carrier settings update will appear if there’s a new version available.

    5. Update Your iPhone

There might be a problem with the iOS version you’re using related to multimedia messaging.

To rule this out, check for available updates on your iPhone to patch bugs and other issues.

Follow the guide below to update your iPhone:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to General > Software Update
    3. If there’s a new iOS version available, tap Download and Install
    4. Once the new software is ready, follow the prompts to install the update.

    3. Enable Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates
can't send photos to non-iphone users

    6. Check Your Apple ID and FaceTime Account

Some users were able to solve the problem by ensuring that their Apple ID matched their FaceTime account.

To check what Apple ID is signed in to your iPhone:

    1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Tap on your Profile

To check what FaceTime account you’re using:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Scroll down and tap on FaceTime
    3. Under Caller ID, you should see which FaceTime account you’re using.

    7. Turn Off Bluetooth

For some weird reasons, having Bluetooth turned on prevents users from sending media to non-iPhone users.

Try it on your end to see if it will work:

    1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Tap on Bluetooth
    AirPods no sound
    1. Tap the toggle switch beside Bluetooth

    FAQs

Why can’t I send a picture from iPhone to Android?

If you can’t send a picture to an Android user, it’s likely due to MMS Messaging being disabled on your iPhone. To enable it, go to Settings > Messages and enable the feature. Your carrier or recipient’s carrier might also be experiencing problems.

Why can’t I send pictures to someone on iMessage?

Your network connection might be unstable. iMessage requires a stable internet connection to send images and videos. If your cellular data or Wi-Fi is weak, iMessage may struggle to send even regular texts.

How do I enable MMS on my iPhone?

To enable MMS on your iPhone:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Access the Messages tab.
    3. Look for MMS Messaging and tap the toggle switch beside it.

Why is my iPhone message not delivered?

If you don’t see a “delivered” status on your message, it means that your message has not yet been delivered to the recipient. It can be due to network issues, or your recipient has Focus mode enabled.

Have you ever found yourself with a balance in your Apple ID that you can’t seem to spend?

Or do you need to change store location and zero out your balance?

    Well, don’t worry.

I’m here to show you what I did to get my Apple ID balance to zero.

    Let’s get started!

First Things First: Check Apple ID Balance

Before you can empty your Apple ID funds, you need to know how much exactly you have in your account.

This can help you plan your next action and where to spend the remaining credits on your account.

Here’s how you can check your Apple ID balance:

    1. Open the App Store on your iPhone.
    2. Now, tap on your Profile in the upper right corner.
    3. Sign in with your Apple ID when prompted.

If you have a balance, the amount will appear. If you don’t see an amount, then it means you don’t have a balance.

    1. Spend Your Balance

The easiest way to zero out your Apple ID balance is to spend it.

Here are some ways to do that:

    • Purchase Apps: You can browse the App Store and look for paid apps or games. Use your Apple ID balance to make the purchase.
    • Apple Music Subscription: If you use Apple Music, you can use your Apple ID balance to pay for the subscription.
    • iCloud Storage: iPhones don’t have expandable storage. If you have some credits on your account, you can use it to purchase iCloud Storage.
    • Apple Books: You can purchase e-books or audiobooks from the Apple Books store.
    • Apple Arcade: Subscribing to Apple Arcade is another way to spend your Apple ID balance.

    Note

When spending your credits, make sure your purchase amount is greater than or equal to your balance. If your balance is insufficient to cover the total amount, your linked payment method will be charged for the remaining balance.

    2. Contact Apple Support.

If you don’t want to spend any more money, you can always contact Apple to zero out the balance on your account.

get apple id balance to zero

Sadly, this option will cause you to lose whatever credits you have on your account since unused Apple account balances and gift cards can’t be returned or exchanged for cash except as required by law.

    FAQs

How can I zero my Apple ID balance?

To zero out your Apple ID balance, you can spend it on various Apple services like the App Store, iTunes, Apple Music, or iCloud Storage. You can purchase an item or service with an equivalent value to your balance or higher if you add another payment method. After deducting your Apple ID balance, the remaining balance will be charged from your other payment options.

Can I cash out Apple ID balance?

No. Apple does not provide an option to cash out your Apple ID balance. You can only use it to make purchases within the Apple ecosystem, including the App Store, iTunes Store, Apple Books, and other Apple services.

How do I pay my unpaid Apple balance?

If you have unpaid charges on your Apple ID account, such as subscription fees or outstanding app purchases, your Apple ID balance will be used to cover these charges automatically. If your balance is insufficient to cover the total amount, your linked payment method (credit card or PayPal) will be charged for the remaining balance.

How long does Apple ID balance last?

Your Apple ID balance does not expire. It will remain in your account until you use it to make purchases or subscribe to services. You can keep your balance for as long as you like without it expiring.

Can you transfer Apple ID balance to another account?

No, Apple does not allow the direct transfer of Apple ID balances from one account to another. Each Apple ID balance is tied to the specific Apple ID account it belongs to. Balances cannot be shared or transferred between different Apple IDs.

Ever need to answer a call and realize that your iPhone’s ear speaker is not working?

This has been the case for some users after updating their devices to iOS 17.

I understand the frustration it brings, so I compiled a list of solutions for solving this problem on your iPhone.

    Let’s begin!

Why Your iPhone Ear Speaker Is Not Working?

Before diving into the troubleshooting process, let’s explore some common reasons why your ear speaker is not working:

    • Dust and debris lodged in the speaker grille
    • Software glitches or incorrect sound settings
    • Hardware problems like loose connections or a faulty speaker

    1. Restart Your iPhone

A bug or glitch could be causing your iPhone’s ear speaker to malfunction.

Try restarting your device to reload its system resources. This should resolve temporary issues that occurred during use.

Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Hold the Volume Down and Side buttons until the ‘Slide to Power Off’ prompt appears.
    2. Now, drag the slider to the right and wait for 30 seconds.
    3. Press the Side button afterward to turn on your device.
    Restart iPhone

    2. Check Phone Volume

Before changing your settings, verify that your iPhone’s volume settings are correctly configured.

Ensure the sound is not muted or set to a very low level.

Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Call a friend or family.
    2. While dialing, press the Volume Up button on your iPhone.
    3. Set the volume in the middle or crank it all the way up.

    3. Clean Your iPhone’s Earpiece

If your iPhone ear speaker is not working, there might be some dirt or debris blocking the earpiece or grills.

    What You’ll Need

    • A soft brush (toothbrush works)
    • Q-tip
    • Compressed Air (optional)

Steps: Clean the iPhone’s Ear Speaker

    1. Make sure that your iPhone is powered off.
    2. Now, locate the ear speaker.
    3. Gently brush the speaker grill to remove any dirt.
    4. Grab a Q-Tip and wipe the grills to ensure that you get all the dirt out.
    5. Spray a can of compressed air to blow any remaining debris out.

    Note

    • Avoid using sharp or pointed objects to clean the speaker grille, as this can damage the delicate components.
    • If your device has a protective case, remove it before cleaning to access the speaker grille more effectively.
    • Perform this cleaning routine periodically to prevent the accumulation of dirt and debris.

    4. Check Audio Output

During a phone call, you can select where audio is routed.

If you don’t hear anything from the ear speaker, it’s possible your loudspeaker or Bluetooth device might have been selected.

During a phone call, do this:

    1. Tap the Speaker icon
    2. Select iPhone from the drop-down menu.
iphone ear speaker not working on ios 17

    5. Disable Phone Noise Cancellation

iPhones use a feature called “Phone Noise Cancellation” to reduce ambient noise levels and make phone calls clearer.

However, this feature can bug out and prevent the ear speaker from outputting any sound.

Try disabling the feature to see if it causes the problem:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Now, go to Accessibility
    3. Go to Audio/Visual
    4. Find Phone Noise Cancellation and disable it.
iphone ear speaker not working on ios 17

Make another call to check if the problem is solved.

    6. Check If Your iPhone Is Stuck On Headphones Mode

Your iPhone can bug out and get stuck in headphones mode. When this happens, it will continue to send sound from your headphones even when it’s not connected.

As a result, your loudspeaker and ear speaker won’t function.

    Here’s how you can check:

    • Control Center: Check the volume slider to see if it shows a headphone icon.
    • During A Call: Tap the speaker icon to see if your phone is detecting your headphones.

You can check our detailed guide for fixing your iPhone if it’s stuck in headphones mode to get this sorted.

    7. Check for Updates

iOS 17 is still new, and Apple is constantly pushing updates to address bugs and errors.

If your iPhone ear speaker is still not working, I suggest you check for available software updates.

The version you’re using might have an issue related to audio and phone calls.

Here’s how you can update your device:

    3. Enable Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates
iphone ear speaker not working on ios 17

    8. Book An Appointment to Apple

If none of the solutions above worked, it’s likely that you are dealing with a hardware issue.

Contact Apple to book an appointment at the nearest store to have your iPhone checked by a professional.

    FAQs

Why is the ear speaker not working on my iPhone?

The ear speaker may not be working on your iPhone due to software issues or incorrect configurations. Double-check your settings during calls and ensure that your ear speaker is selected as the default audio output. Check the volume and ensure it’s turned all the way up.

Why is my iPhone ear speaker low after an update?

There are several reasons why your iPhone ear speaker has a low sound output. It can be a bug with the software, or the speaker grills are clogged with dirt. There might already be an underlying issue before the update, and you just noticed it after the update.

How do I test my iPhone ear speaker?

One of the best methods of testing an ear speaker on an iPhone is by making a call. This way, you can check if the speakers work and if they sound good. Your ear speaker is good if you can hear the other person on the line clearly and don’t notice distortion or buzzing sounds.

Can you replace the iPhone ear speaker?

Yes, but it requires professional help. Replacement of the ear speaker requires soldering and professional tools to preserve FaceID. You can book an appointment with Apple to get your iPhone repaired.

How much does an iPhone ear speaker cost?

Replacing your iPhone’s speaker can cost around $200 to $600, depending on the service center. If you have it repaired by Apple, the starting cost is $599.

The post How to Fix Notifications Not Working on iOS 17 appeared first on Saint.

    ]]>
I recently updated to iOS 17 and discovered that my iPhone stopped sending notifications for almost any application.

This caused me to miss important reminders from my clients and colleagues.

So, I searched the Internet to find the most effective solutions on how to fix notifications if they stopped working after updating to iOS 17.

These are the solutions I’ve found to work best.

    1. Turn Off Focus Mode

Focus mode is the primary culprit as to why you’re not receiving notifications. The recent iOS 17 might have enabled it by default, preventing apps from sending push notifications.

Follow the steps below to check if the feature is enabled:

    1. Access the Control Center by swiping down from the upper right corner of your display.
    2. Now, tap on the current active Focus preset to turn it off.
notifications not working on ios 17

Observe if you’ll receive notifications from apps.

    2. Add Focus Exceptions

If you prefer using Focus mode, there’s an option for you to set exceptions for contacts and apps that can disturb you.

To add Focus exceptions, you can do the following:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Now, tap on Focus
    3. Choose the preset you want to edit.
    4. Under Allowed Notifications, tap on People or Apps
    Do Not Disturb

People – add contacts you want to receive calls from even when Focus is enabled. You can also select Everyone if you want to keep receiving calls with Focus mode.

Apps – add applications that can send you push notifications with Focus mode activated.

    3. Disable Focus Automation

I encountered an instance when I was confident that Focus was disabled.

My phone was not ringing, and I thought no one was messaging or calling me.

To my surprise, Focus was enabled automatically, and I missed a few calls from my friends.

To prevent this from happening, ensure that Focus Automation is disabled.

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Go to Focus
    3. Select the preset you want to change.
    4. Under Turn On Automatically/Activate, disable all settings, or select the automation you want to disable.
notifications not working on ios 17

    4. Turn Off Shared Across Devices

Focus can be synced across the entire Apple ecosystem. However, if you only want Focus on your MacBook and not your iPhone, you must disable the sync feature.

Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Now, tap on Focus
    3. Find Share Across Devices and turn off the toggle switch.
    Share Across Devices

Observe if Focus will still automatically activate on your iPhone.

    5. Turn Off Notification Summary

Notification summary is another feature to check if notifications are not working on your iPhone after the iOS 17 update.

This feature only allows time-sensitive alerts, and all non-urgent notifications are silenced.

If you don’t need this feature, I recommend turning it off to avoid non-urgent notifications from getting filtered.

See the guide below to turn off the notification summary:

    1. Inside your iPhone’s settings, go to Notifications
    2. Now, tap on Scheduled Summary
    3. Tap the switch beside Scheduled Summary to turn it off.

Observe if you are receiving all notifications now on your iPhone.

    6. Check Notifications for Apps

If notifications are not working from specific applications, there might be a problem with the preferences of your iPhone running iOS 17.

Follow the guide below to check your individual app settings:

    1. Access the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Now, scroll down and tap on the app you want to check.
    3. Tap on Notifications
    4. Ensure that the Allow Notifications option is enabled.

See if you are now receiving alerts from the app.

    7. Update Your App

If notifications for the app are enabled, I suggest checking for app updates.

The version you’re using might have compatibility issues with iOS 17, causing notifications to malfunction.

Here’s how you can update apps on your iPhone:

    1. First, open the App Store on your device.
    2. Tap your Profile icon in the upper right corner.
    3. Find the app you want to update.
    4. Tap the Update button beside the app.

    8. Update Your iPhone

The version of iOS 17 you’re using might have an underlying problem related to notifications and alerts.

To rule this out, see if there are new versions available to patch potential bugs and errors.

Follow the steps below to update your iPhone:

    1. Open Settings on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to General > Software Update
    3. If there’s a new iOS version available, tap Update Now
    Update iPhone

    Note

    • Your device can restart several times while installing the update.
    • Ensure your iPhone has at least 50% battery before installing updates. It’s best to keep your device plugged into the wall charger to avoid interruptions.

    3. Enable Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates

    9. Contact Apple Support

If none of the solutions above worked, it’s best to speak to an Apple representative for further diagnosing.

There might be a problem with your phone’s software or hardware that needs to be addressed by a technician or their team.

Visit Apple’s support page to report the problem you’re experiencing.

    FAQs

Why am I not getting notifications even though they are turned on iOS?

The main reason you are not getting notifications on your iPhone is focus mode. This feature filters all notifications on your phone so you can focus on work or study. Bugs and software-related issues can also cause notifications to malfunction.

How do I enable push notifications for apps?

If you want to enable notifications for certain apps, you can do it by:

    1. Go to Settings and access the app you want to change notifications.
    2. Access the Notifications tab inside the app’s settings.
    3. Enable the Allow Notifications option.

You can also tweak how notifications are delivered here.

    Are push notifications automatically on?

No. App notifications for iOS are disabled by default. However, users get a prompt after installing the app if they want it to send push notifications.

How do I see notifications on iOS 17?

You can see notifications on your iPhone through the notification center. There are two ways to access the notification center:

    • From the lock screen: swipe up from the middle of the screen.
    • On any other screen: swipe downwards from the upper left corner of your screen.

How do I force notifications on iOS?

iOS allows you to customize notifications. You can enable notifications for an app, allow it to play sound, and select how they are delivered.

To force an app to send notifications, you need to:

    1. Go to the Settings app.
    2. Now, tap on Notifications
    3. Tap on the app you want to customize.
    4. Enable Allow Notifications and tweak how you want notifications to be delivered.

Missing custom ringtones has been among the numerous bugs users have complained about in iOS 17.

Many fans love custom ringtones as it helps them distinguish notifications from other people’s iPhones.

Sadly, now, the feature is gone.

In this post, I’ve compiled several workarounds to address the problem.

    1. Update Your Software

Check if software updates are available for your device and see if it fixes the issue.

Here’s how you can update your iPhone:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to General > Software Update
    3. If there’s a new iOS version available, tap Update Now
    4. Once the new software is ready, follow the prompts to install the update.

    • Allow at least 15 minutes for the update to install

To avoid missing future updates, enable automatic updates on your iPhone:

    2. Load Custom Tones Using iTunes

If you still can’t see your custom tones on iOS 17, you can fix it by loading your tones using iTunes.

This might take some time since you need to do it for each tone, but it’s guaranteed to work.

Here’s what you need to do:

    1. Install iMazing on your computer. For Windows users, you will need to download pList Editor as well.
    2. Access your iPhone using iMazing
    3. Next, go to File System
    Media/iTunes_Control/iTunes

    1. Copy all the custom ringtones you have to your computer.
    2. Now, open the .pList file of your custom ringtone using any pList editor you have.
    3. Inside the editor, go to XML view
    4. Add the following lines at the end of the code:
    • Alert Tones: <key>Media Kind</key><string>tone</string>
    • Ringtones:<key>Media Kind</key><string>ringtone</string>

    1. Save the pList file and copy the ringtone back to your iPhone.

Restart your iPhone, and you should now be able to use custom ringtones again.

    3. Wait for iOS 17.1 Beta 1 Official Release

It has been confirmed that custom ringtones were added back on iOS 17.1 Beta 1.

While there’s no official timeline for this new version’s release, it’s a relief that the issue with missing custom tones on iOS 17 will get fixed soon.

If you’re uncomfortable editing pList files, I suggest you wait for the official release of the iOS 17.1.1 update to get your custom tones back.

As mentioned above, you can enable automatic updates by doing the following:

    1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Go to General > Software Update > Automatic Updates
    3. Enable Download iOS Updates and Install iOS Updates

    FAQs

Why are my custom ringtones not showing up on my iPhone?

Your custom ringtones may have disappeared after updating to iOS 17 due to file incompatibility. However, it can also be due to a bug or error within iOS, or Apple overlooked the feature and forgot to add it to the new software.

Rest assured, Apple is already working on the matter, and iOS 17.1 Beta 1 already has the feature working.

What devices are not supported by iOS 17?

Sadly, all iPhones below iPhone X will not be supported by iOS 17. The iPhone X is the first iPhone without a home button not to be supported by the latest version of iOS. Fortunately, the XS and XS Max are guaranteed to receive future iOS 17 versions.

Reddit users found that the reason custom ringtones are missing from iOS 17 is due to changes within the iOS repository

Text tones are now stored in a different dedicated location, and the file path for custom tones was changed. Custom tones now use a .plist format, and your iPhone will simply ignore your existing tones if they are not in the .plist format.

Following Method 2 should get your custom tones working again.

Can you set custom text tones on iPhone?

Yes. iOS 17 features a dedicated Tones Store where you can purchase custom tones. You can also make your own tones using GarageBand.

To set a custom text tone, you’ll need to go to:

    1. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.
    2. Navigate to Sounds & Haptics
    3. Under Sounds and Haptic Patterns, tap on Text Tone.
    4. Select the custom tone you want to use.
