If you have Location Services enabled on your iPhone, apps like Weather, Maps, etc., will derive data regularly to know your whereabouts.

To fix this, simply disable Location Services by following the steps below:

1. Launch the Settings app on your device.
   
2. Then, go to Privacy & Security.

3. After that, tap on Location Services.

8. Avoid Using iPhone Under Direct Sunlight

Though Apple provides in-built protection for its internal components, the device temperature greatly relies on external conditions. If you’re using your latest iPhone 14 Pro under direct sunlight on a hot day, its temperature will eventually become unbearable.

We all know that charging an electronic device generates heat from it. This energy needs to be properly dissipated to maintain your iPhone’s battery health.

10. Use a Non-Fast Charger (Or Another Charger)

Another thing to keep in mind while putting your iPhone on charge is to avoid using a fast charger.

Fast charging increases the temperature at a similar rate.

11. Remove iPhone From Charge

This caused me to miss important reminders from my clients and colleagues. 

So, I searched the Internet to find the most effective solutions on how to fix notifications if they stopped working after updating to iOS 17. 

These are the solutions I’ve found to work best.

1. Turn Off Focus Mode

Focus mode is the primary culprit as to why you’re not receiving notifications. The recent iOS 17 might have enabled it by default, preventing apps from sending push notifications. 

Follow the steps below to check if the feature is enabled: 

1. Access the Control Center by swiping down from the upper right corner of your display. 
2. Now, tap on the current active Focus preset to turn it off. 

Observe if you’ll receive notifications from apps.

2. Add Focus Exceptions

If you prefer using Focus mode, there’s an option for you to set exceptions for contacts and apps that can disturb you. 

To add Focus exceptions, you can do the following:

3. Choose the preset you want to edit. 
4. Under Allowed Notifications, tap on People or Apps. 

People – add contacts you want to receive calls from even when Focus is enabled. You can also select Everyone if you want to keep receiving calls with Focus mode.

3. Disable Focus Automation

I encountered an instance when I was confident that Focus was disabled. 

My phone was not ringing, and I thought no one was messaging or calling me. 

To my surprise, Focus was enabled automatically, and I missed a few calls from my friends. 

To prevent this from happening, ensure that Focus Automation is disabled. 

1. Open Settings on your iPhone. 
2. Go to Focus. 
3. Select the preset you want to change. 
4. Under Turn On Automatically/Activate, disable all settings, or select the automation you want to disable. 

4. Turn Off Shared Across Devices

Focus can be synced across the entire Apple ecosystem. However, if you only want Focus on your MacBook and not your iPhone, you must disable the sync feature. 

Here’s what you need to do: 

1. Go to Settings on your iPhone. 
2. Now, tap on Focus. 
3. Find Share Across Devices and turn off the toggle switch. 

Observe if Focus will still automatically activate on your iPhone.

5. Turn Off Notification Summary

Notification summary is another feature to check if notifications are not working on your iPhone after the iOS 17 update. 

This feature only allows time-sensitive alerts, and all non-urgent notifications are silenced. 

If you don’t need this feature, I recommend turning it off to avoid non-urgent notifications from getting filtered.

4. Copy all the custom ringtones you have to your computer. 
5. Now, open the .pList file of your custom ringtone using any pList editor you have. 
6. Inside the editor, go to XML view. 
7. Add the following lines at the end of the code: 

• Alert Tones: <key>Media Kind</key><string>tone</string>
• Ringtones:<key>Media Kind</key><string>ringtone</string>

8. Save the pList file and copy the ringtone back to your iPhone. 

Restart your iPhone, and you should now be able to use custom ringtones again.

3. Wait for iOS 17.1 Beta 1 Official Release

It has been confirmed that custom ringtones were added back on iOS 17.1 Beta 1.

If you’re uncomfortable editing pList files, I suggest you wait for the official release of the iOS 17.1.1 update to get your custom tones back.
